Welcome to Apis Books

Welcome to the E-home of Apis Books, a brand-new publishing venture that aims to promote the best and the brightest talent in the field of shorter fiction. First up, for those of you with no Latin, Apis means Bee. Just as bees toil to produce golden honey, so the editorial team at Apis Books will work to distill shorter fiction and present it to the unsuspecting world. What will make Apis stand out, we believe, is the time our editors will dedicate to working with promising new writers, helping them to transform their ideas into crystal-clear prose. Short and sweet.

‘These are dynamic, shape-shifting works of fiction that push at the boundaries not only of what can be represented - but even what can be imagined, I urge you to read them.’

Since our first publication, Tales of the DeCongested, Volume One (June 2006), an anthology of stories selected from those performed at the hugely successful Tales of the DeCongested event (Tales of the DeCongested is a monthly, short-story-reading event that takes place at Foyles Bookshop on London's Charing Cross Road), we have published Two Tall Tales and One Short Novel, a collection of shorter fiction from three of the UK's brightest new talents: Heidi James, Kay Sexton and Lucy Fry (July 2007) and will launch our third publication, Desperate Remedies: fiction from Paul Blaney, Adam Elston, Mark Saba, M L Stedman, Guy Ware and Shaun Levin this April.  Desperate Remedies will be launched at  our one-day Short Story Festival, run by us and Tales of the DeCongested, on Saturday April 5th, hosted by Foyles Bookshop, Charing Cross Road, and supported by Booktrust as part of Get London Reading 2008.

See the News page for details of where to hear the authors read from the collection.
